Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., Director Christopher Wray will testify before the House Judiciary Committee at an oversight hearing on the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Established in 1908, the FBI is a national security and law enforcement agency tasked with protecting the United States from terrorist threats and upholding and enforcing the criminal laws of the United States. The Bureau currently employs more than 30,000 people.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) issued the statement below in advance of this hearing.

Chairman Goodlatte: “Next week, FBI Director Christopher Wray will testify before the House Judiciary Committee for the first time in his capacity as head of our nation’s top law enforcement agency. In today’s post-9/11 world, the scope and mission of the FBI has expanded dramatically to respond to emerging threats. The FBI must now balance counterterrorism, counterintelligence, and cybersecurity responsibilities with its traditional law enforcement role. The House Judiciary Committee has an important responsibility to keep a watchful eye on the FBI to ensure it is fulfilling its missions and that it follows the facts wherever they lead without political interference. We look forward to hearing from Director Wray on the many issues facing the FBI, concerns about the politicization of the Bureau, and on answers to the many questions Members have regarding issues before the FBI.”

Media Guidance: The hearing will take place in 2141 Rayburn House Office Building and will be webcast live at judiciary.house.gov. On the day of the hearing, media will be allowed access to the committee hearing room at 9:30 a.m.
